Diana Lopez, HICAP Program Counselor and Educator
Navigating Medicare

Diana works for HICAP, California's Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program, and as a Patient Navigator with a specialty in Integrative Health. Diana supports clients with information and resources for basic needs and helps them navigate complex medical systems. She received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in India Studies from Sonoma State University where the program included studying Hindi and Sanskrit and writing in Devanagari. This eventually led her to become the director of Linguistic and Cultural Services Department at the Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in San Francisco, CA.

By attending this presentation, participants will: 

• Learn where to go and what resources are available if encountering challenges with Medicare

• Gain a working knowledge of changes to Medicare that may affect coverage 

• Learn about the most prevalent Medicare fraud schemes 

• Understand the roles of HICAP volunteers and the training required for becoming a counselor
