WoMena

"WoMena is a non-profit organization that adapts innovative solutions for women and girls' reproductive health. The focus is on menstrual health, and resuable products such as menstrual cups and reusable pads. WoMena works in over 100 locations in Africa, focusing on Uganda. WoMena takes an evidence-based and evidence-generating approach, contributing to global knowledge and working with a wide range of partners. Menstruation is surrounded by shame and taboos and contributes to school dropout, poverty, health problems as well as environmental issues. WoMena goes beyond distribution of products, engaging with the wider community, for example parents, teachers, health providers, and beyond to policy makers. Males are particularly important. Cups are widely adopted and continuation rates are high, girls report going from a state of fear and shame to freedom ("Now I can ride my bike freely"). Policy changes are made both at national and international level, for example UNICEF."
